Patrick and Meredith thurman

Patrick is a Pastor and Licensed Professional Counselor. For 16 years, Patrick has served the local church. When you are around him, you quickly realize his passion for people… especially those that live in the margins. Patrick also has Bipolar 1 disorder. Like many, he was first diagnosed when he was 22 years old and still continues to battle the illness today.

Meredith is a loving wife and mom. She has stuck by Patrick’s side and supported him throughout their greatest challenges. She is deeply compassionate and understands the struggle of living with someone who suffers from mental illness. She has lost so much, yet she is still willing to surrender it all for the sole purpose that Christ’s love may be expanded in her heart.

Patrick and Meredith’s greatest ministry has been birthed out of their deepest pain. They were blindsided by mental illness while they were living a dream, that quickly turned into a nightmare. They began looking for encouragement and hope while struggling to live with bipolar disorder. Instead, what they found in the groups they joined was a lot of hopelessness. People talked about coping, rather than fully living life in spite of their disorders. They finally stopped attending these group meetings because they left feeling overwhelmed and more hopeless than ever. They believe one way to receive healing is by creating space to hear the stories of others. They are transparent and are open to sharing their story. They understand that healing comes from addressing both the physical and spiritual components associated with mental illness. They want to build a community that loves even when it hurts.

Their greatest joy is parenting three amazing kiddos. They reside in Houston, Texas where they are on staff Second Baptist Church’s North Campus.

Please introduce yourself. If you live in the area, they would love to buy you coffee or lunch sometime. Let’s create space to encounter God and heal together.

“What you have been through will become the exact wound in you that will be the entry point where God’s love can flow through you to someone else.”
— Patrick Thurman, Founder
